Just back from meeting Mark Davies, one of the original 4 who founded First Tuesday - http://www.markdavies.net. He's really a product guy at heart, and one of the most fascinating men I know. I love how he thinks. He's building a new trading/communications/information platform in Africa out of Ghana called Esoko - watch for it to have transformational impact. Mark founded the original city search guide, MetroBeat, and sold it to CitySearch - I want to get him involved in Bview.
Caught up with Christina on the latest in Spinvox today as well. The conversion revenue is going through the roof - just like a J curve ... damn impressive
Had a call with Rachel Armitrage of Zoombu. They are building a one stop search for end to end travel throughout Europe. Why hasn't anyone thought to do this before? Seems so obvious.
Last week met up with Glen Manchester who runs Thunderhead, and seems to be claiming every Entrepreneur of the Year award out there... yet another great UK entrepreneurs who hasn't stopped to take VC funding. There are so many and that *is* the opportunity for Ariadne. His business is based on XML as well as Qire, a voice messaging firm, Ariadne advises out of Liverpool. I remember first reading about XML while I was at Fontainebleau in 1997 in Business Week. I thought it would be big then, and it has been.
Great article on Steve Jobs in the Sunday Times today - he's a productive narcissist - gosh I think I might be too, and frankly every entrepreneur I've ever worked with!!! :) http://technology.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/tech_and_web/article6797859.ece
